Not blacked out ultra dark like described. Different arms to the other pair I have and I’m dissapointed in these ones.
Hey legend, the Legacy Pitch Black uses an ultra-dark Category 4 lens, which is the darkest lens category legally available for sunglasses. CAT 4 lenses are designed for extremely bright conditions with very high glare environments such as open water, snow, desert conditions, etc. They are actually so dark that they are not legally recommended for driving, which is why the warning label was included on the lens.
One thing worth noting is that no sunglass lens can be completely solid black with zero visibility through it. If the lens was fully solid, you wouldn’t be able to see through it yourself. All sunglass lenses still need to allow a percentage of visible light through so vision remains usable.
A big difference with the Pitch Black compared to a lot of our other lenses is that it does not use a reflective mirror coating. Most coloured lenses use reflective coatings, which creates that mirrored “non see-through” look from the outside. The Pitch Black was intentionally designed differently. No shine, no mirror, no flash. Just a true blacked-out lens and frame combination.
I'll say they've been the best I've ever gotten. Their super comfortable and I've been wearing them everywhere I go since!
